Our 2019 KBDI Award Winning Kitchen
The Brief
Our clients were looking for ways to improve the flow of the living and kitchen areas in their light-filled modern home. The existing space was awkwardly divided by an L shaped wall to create the kitchen area and a small study nook - neither of which provided much functional space and the existing wall blocked the light & aspect from the front garden.
The existing kitchen was pokey and lacked storage despite a small walk-in pantry area. With a young son starting school, the clients wanted to incorporate a study nook into the new design, make the best use of the walk-in pantry space and create a functional, spacious and contemporary kitchen to suit their home.
Warm meets cool perfectly in this modern design combining grey shades, black and white highlights and warm timber tones. Featuring concrete look stone tops and slimline black handles, the kitchen includes a study nook and mud room, reconfigured from the existing kitchen/pantry space.
The kitchen features an appliance centre set back into the old walk in pantry space for extra depth, Blum full extension soft close drawers, a pull-out detergent rack and mini-pantry drawer for oils sauces and spices near the cooktop. Laminate finishes in complementary grey tones are warmed by laminate timber-look finishes for the open shelf units, matching nicely with the solid timber meals table. The main part of the island features a concrete-look stone top with 150mm apron, while the cooktop bench provides a compliment in white with a matching white tile splashback.
