FAQ's

  • What is the difference between an undermount sink and a flushmount sink?

Both undermount and flushmount sinks can only be installed with stone type benchtops, i.e. granite, solid surface, stone. An Undermount sink sits under the surface of the benchtop whereas a flushmount sink is routed into the face of the stone and sits flat, or flush with the benchtop. Flushmount cooktops are also becoming a popular choice.
  • What is the difference between an induction cooktop and a gas cooktop?

Traditional gas cooktops use a naked flame to heat your pan, whereas induction cooktops use a magnetic field to activate the iron molecules in the base of your cookware to create heat. Induction cooktops are very efficient; a 3 litre pot of water traditionally takes 9-10 minutes to boil, but with an induction cooker, it takes 2-3 minutes. Other advantages of induction cooktops include safety, as no naked flame is present and ease of cleaning.
  • What are the hidden costs of renovating a kitchen, bathroom or laundry?

There are many aspects of a renovation that can add cost. For example your selection of benchtop material, your choice of splashback and your appliances may be premium options. Also consider the cost of tradespeople; whether structural work or waterproofing is required; preparation of the floor area; and whether you are updating your lighting during the project.
  • How long does a kitchen or bathroom installation take?

Preparing the room needs to be considered first and may include ripping out features of the previous room, rubbish removal, any plastering and preparation of the floor. Actual installation of cabinets only takes a couple of days and your selection of materials for benchtops and splashbacks will determine how long the kitchen installation takes. Stone benchtops require a template to be created by the stonemason. This can only be done once the cabinets are installed, then allow 2 weeks for the benchtop to be supplied. If you choose glass splashbacks, these will be measured once your benchtops are in place, then allow 2-3 weeks for installation. For a bathroom renovation, showerscreens will be measured once all the floor and wall tiling is complete. Then allow 2-3 weeks for manufacture and installation.
  • What is formaldehyde and will it affect my family?

Formaldehyde is widely used as an adhesive in the manufacture of building products, such as pressed wood panels used in cabinetry. Products tend to release formaldehyde over time and some people may develop sensitivity to these emissions. When the products are new, high indoor temperatures or humidity can cause an increase in the release of formaldehyde from these products. If exposed to elevated levels (above 0.1 parts per million) of formaldehyde, some people may experience watery eyes, burning sensations in the eyes and throat, nausea or difficulty in breathing.
